The Maritime Museum of San Diego Model Gallery 'Celebrating the Art of Model Making'

Opening Nov. 1, 2021 as a permanent new exhibit found only at the Maritime Museum of San Diego.

Maritime Museum of San Diego, serving as the community memory of our seafaring experience by collecting, preserving, and presenting our rich maritime heritage and historic connections with the Pacific world, has opened a new Model Gallery exhibit: “Celebrating the Art of Model Making,” located at the aft-end of the 1898 Victorian-era steam ferryboat Berkeley. This new Ship Model Gallery and adjacent passageway enhance the Maritime Museum of San Diego visitor experience with an artistic display of a number of significant donations of museum quality ship models and items which have been drawn from the Museum’s collections storage.

This new exhibit employs models of historic vessels and as examples of both fine art and as engaging illustrations of our common seafaring heritage. Along with models that rank as pieces of fine art are other artifacts from the Maritime Museum of San Diego’s collection including the now retired fore-topsail of the Californian, the official tall ship of the state.

Entrance to the Model Gallery exhibit and display space is included with the general admission ticket purchase. Admission: $10.00 12 and under, $15.00 senior/students age 13-17, adults $20.00.
