When researchers looked for wild magnolias around the globe — from Asia, where about two-thirds of wild magnolias live, to the United States to Colombia — they found a troubling lack of trees.
According to their findings, over half of all species are threatened with extinction. That's 131 of the world's 245 known wild magnolia species.
