  • As a recording and touring artist, James Taylor has touched people with his warm baritone voice and distinctive style of guitar-playing for more than 50 years, while setting a precedent to which countless young musicians have aspired. Over the course of his celebrated songwriting and performing career, he has sold more than 100 million albums, earning gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards since the release of his self-titled debut album in 1968. In 2015, he released "Before This World," the first-ever #1 album of his illustrious career. James has won multiple Grammy® Awards, has been inducted into both the Rock and Roll and the prestigious Songwriters Halls of Fame and in February 2006, The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences selected him its MUSICARES Person of the Year. He was also awarded the distinguished Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government and the National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama in 2012. In November of 2015, James was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Nation's highest civilian honor, and in December of 2016 he received the Kennedy Center Honors, which are presented annually to individuals who have enriched American culture by distinguished achievement in the performing arts.  In early 2020 he released "Break Shot," a deeply personal and authentic audio-only memoir detailing his first 21 years. He also released his newest album, "American Standard," his 19th studio album, which earned him the 2021 Grammy® Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album and gave him the honor of being the first artist to have a Billboard Top 10 album in each of the past six decades.   • Enjoy pirate themed pool activities and games during the City of Carlsbad’s annual Pirate Plunge event. Come dressed in a swimsuit and enjoy the swashbuckling activities which include diving for treasure, ship raider race, walking the plank, and other fun pool activities and floating obstacles. The Splash Pad will also be open for the little ones. Dry activities include a pirate ship slide, a photo op and a treasure hunt where children will have the chance to follow a map around the decks collecting treasure along the way. Tickets are $15 per person and kids ages 3 and under are free but still need to be registered. Pick up your wristbands in advance at Alga Norte Aquatic Center during the week before the event, to avoid lines. Food will be available for purchase.   • Celebrated harpsichordist Jean Rondeau returns to San Diego, this time with his ensemble Nevermind, to present their brand-new transcription of the Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, by Johann Sebastian Bach. With Anna Besson on flute, Louis Creac’h on violin, and Robin Pharo on viola da gamba, the ensemble worked extensively on the transcriptions, shining new light on Bach’s masterpiece and unveiling new possibilities within the music. The concert will be held at St. James by-the-Sea Episcopal Church on March 14th at 7:30 p.m. Tickets and additional information are available on the society’s website. Founded in 2013, Nevermind champions and transcends the quartet repertoire (flute, violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord) of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Nevermind have showcased their virtuosity at prestigious venues across Europe including the Auditorium of the Louvre, Wiener Konzerthaus, Wigmore Hall and the Barbican in London, Amsterdam’s Muziekgebouw, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Konzerthaus Dortmund, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Centra Nacional de Difusión Musical in Madrid, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, Concertgebouw Brugge, and the Salle de Musique in la Chaux-de-Fonds. Their international tours have also taken them as far afield as the United States, Canada, Russia, Iceland, and the Far East; notable highlights include the Boston Early Music Festival, Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio, Hong Kong City Hall, and a highly successful tour of Australia in 2019 with visits to Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, Newcastle and Brisbane.
