The Gratitude Collective is a community of women who support KPBS’ vision to connect, reflect and serve the San Diego region. Members of the Gratitude Collective are superfans of KPBS and prioritize their philanthropy in support of our commitment to local news, arts and culture, children’s programming, and community engagement and representation via dialogue and events. The Gratitude Collective provides a space for lifelong learning and connection via quarterly experiences such as speaking engagements with women leaders in various fields, social events and KPBS community meetings.

This class is led by Mildred and Sama Barrios, who run a Mexico-based natural color studio called SUULA. In this hands-on workshop, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of modifying natural color. In the realm of natural dyeing, modifiers involve the partial or total application of substances such as vinegar, iron oxide, and baking soda, among others, to fabric dyed with natural dyes. This process alters the tone of the dye, allowing for a wider variety of colors or the creation of patterns and designs on the fabric. Some dyes react more strongly than others to these modifiers. Comic-Con International and San Diego Public Library have teamed up for the Comic Conference for Educators and Librarians (CCEL). This FREE five-day conference will take place at the San Diego Central Library during Comic-Con® from July 23-27, and will explore the role comics play in promoting education and literacy for all ages. Those in the library and education fields are invited to learn creative and exciting ways to incorporate comics and other popular arts into their work. Through presentations and panel discussions, the Conference hopes to engage the community and promote comics as a medium for learning. Seating is not guaranteed and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration is for interest only and does not guarantee a seat.
