The soloist is David Savage, PSO’s Principal Bassoonist and one of San Diego’s most accomplished woodwind musicians. Mozart’s concerto is a rare gem, full of expressive range and technical brilliance that requires a true professional. Mr. Savage brings exactly the artistry and experience this piece demands. Enjoy Irish Sports all day on May 24 at Southwestern College. Join us for more than 70 Gaelic Football, Camogie, and Hurling games played by dozens of teams across the USA and Canada in a one day tournament open to the public. Free admission and parking. Also, enjoy Irish music, performances by Clan Rince School of Irish Dance and a beer garden for 21 and over. The West Coast Sevens is the second largest Gaelic sports tournament in the US. Local San Diego teams competing include Setanta Gaelic Football and Social Club, Na Fianna Ladies Football and Camogie Club. St. Peter's Hurling Club, and San Diego Rovers Hurling Club. Hurling has been played for more than 3,000 years, and is considered the fastest game on grass using a wooden stick called a hurley and a small leather ball called a sliotar. Gaelic Football has been played since the middle ages, and is a very fast form of soccer where players advance the football, a spherical leather ball, up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). Scoring in Hurling, Camogie, and Gaelic Football is by hitting or kicking the ball over the crossbar for one point, or under the crossbar and into the net for three points. Microchips are $40 per chelonian, and all turtles and tortoises must have a shell diameter of at least 10 centimeters. Media Arts Center San Diego’s 24th Innovative Video in Education (iVIE) Awards Ceremony and Student Film Festival 2025 will take place on Sunday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Students from across San Diego County will screen their films showcasing their talents and be celebrated during the awards ceremony at UCSD’s Park and Market in downtown San Diego (1100 Market St). Student filmmakers from schools all across the county, including Central San Diego, El Cajon, Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Clairemont, Vista, Fallbrook, and La Mesa are among the participants. The day will begin with the awards ceremony for all grade levels 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.. Following the ceremony, screenings of all the nominated films will take place upstairs at MACSD’s Digital Gym CINEMA from noon to 4 p.m. Past student participants have stated about the annual IVIE event, “It’s like a replica of the Grammy’s. We get awards, get called up,” or “It means a lot to be able to have a space for us to share and be proud of our work.”. Robin Adler, and her husband, guitarist Dave Blackburn, have devoted the last 18 years to exploring the fascinating music of the iconic Joni Mitchell, through its many incarnations over the decades. Together with their band, named Mutts of the Planet after a lyric line in one of Mitchell’s songs, Adler and Blackburn have performed six of Joni’s albums in their entirety, and released two albums of their own of original arrangements. Robin is widely known around the world as one of the premier vocalists to perform Joni Mitchell’s work. Joining Robin and Dave will be keyboardist Barnaby Finch and Jim Reeves on bass.
