The instructor will show how to form a bowl with power carving tools, as well as creating a unique and personal design to implement into each project. Material fee: $5 payable to the instructor at the start of the workshop. This is an intermediate Power Carving workshop. Students must have completed either the Intro to Power Carving | Sculptural Art &/or Intro to Power Carving | Carving a Spoon before enrolling in this workshop. Saturday, June 7, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Join us in the woodshop for this 4-hour brush making workshop! We will cover shop safety and how to use various machines such as the bandsaw, spindle sander, edge sander, and drill press. You will hone your carving skills by adding curves and texture to your piece. We will build upon machine knowledge and cover wood shaping using various hand tools such as rasps, files, spoke shaves, hand planes, chisels, and gouges. We will also discuss design principles, functional applications, the properties of wood, and brush materials such as Tampico fibers. At the end of the workshop, each student will leave with a unique brush to be used in the home, the shop, or as a beautiful sculpture or gift. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring their own eye protection, ear protection & apron. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome. Wednesdays from 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Choose from two upcoming series: May 21, 28, June 4, 11, 25 -or- July 9, 16, 23, 30, August 13 Learn the fascinating and ancient art form of ceramics with Meg, a full time potter, in this 5-week, weekday evening wheel series. Whether you’re a beginner or intending to deepen your relationship, all are welcome to experience the world of clay in this fun and friendly environment. By focusing on techniques to confidently create functional and aesthetic pottery, we will learn creative design, how to throw on the wheel, trimming and glazing! Projects will be ready to pick up 1-2 weeks after the last class. Beginners welcome. Explore mindfulness-based writing using fun prompts to collectively inspire and deepen your intuitive expression. Participants in this one-session creative writing workshop will be inspired by a series of short, in-class prompts with a poem and pictures. The aim is to boost creativity and deepen each participant’s intuitive expression through contemplative practices. We will start this workshop with a brief mindfulness settling-in exercise—and a poem to accompany the session’s theme. And after each writing prompt, participants will be encouraged to discuss their work in small groups. This intuitive creation process is highly motivating; it enhances self-awareness and the flow of ideas and connection with others. As a creative writing teacher and published author since 2007, and a trained mindfulness teacher since 2017, I enjoy fostering unique and brave spaces for participants to gather from all backgrounds and walks of life. This course is designed for every type of writer: novelists, poets, screenwriters, playwrights, journalists, essayists, etc., with all levels of experience: from novice writers to seasoned authors. We will focus on the collective inspiration derived from a fresh series of fun and original writing prompts. Just bring a pen and notebook to our online class… And come as you are!
