On Alexandra Savior’s new album, "Beneath The Lilypad" (RCA Records)—a collection crafted over the past five years—the singer, songwriter, and musician takes listeners on an ethereal journey. Woven together through 11 lushly orchestrated songs, the album follows the last half- decade of Alexandra’s life, a time during which her sense of self and artistic identity came into question, allowing for a creative freedom driven entirely by instinct and the desire to make music wholly for herself. Tuesdays, July 8, 15, 22, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. In this intermediate crochet series, Instructor Martina Villanueva will students will expand on stitches learned in our 3-Week Crochet Fundamentals series while teaching you how to create granny squares. Students will learn the fundamentals of crochet pattern reading, how to join granny squares, the many uses for, and how to get started on incorporating granny squares as building blocks for future projects. Students must have a working knowledge of single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), chain (ch) and magic circle. Students are welcome to bring their own yarn and/or hook, but it is not necessary. We will be using size 4 yarn and between 4.00mm and 6.00mm crochet hooks. You don’t have to bring your own supplies but you are welcome to. This is an intermediate Crochet series. Students must have completed 3-Week Crochet Fundamentals or be proficient with single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), chain (ch) and magic circle before beginning the series. Material Land Escapades (Ages 7 – 9) July 14 – 18, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Want to come on an adventure on land, sea, and into space? Make new friends as you go on an adventure of colorful landscapes and radiant underwater worlds at MCASD! Learn how contemporary artists combine mediums and materials and make art inspired by the natural world around us: Create your very own underwater world inspired by Andrea Chung. Team up with other camps to film and build an installation just like Fox Maxy. Bend light to create mysterious wonders to celebrate Robert Irwin. Schedule Day 1: Create moon maps and planet keychains as you learn about the moon and space inspired on the works from the permanent collection. Day 2: Finds yourself back on earth surrounded by nature, as you make dancing tree murals and find your way out of escape rooms. Del Mar Plaza is bringing free live music to the coast all July long during their Seaside Sessions series, held every Thursday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the Ocean View Deck. It highlights how immigrant and American born children have become leading chefs, brewers, and entrepreneurs in San Diego, elevating Filipino flavors in bold new ways while staying grounded in family tradition.
