The Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra presents a violin and harp duet, on Friday, April 21 at 1 p.m. Ciara Dabkoswski (violin) and Stefan Wendel (harp) will be playing "Saint-Saens' Fantaisie" for Violin & Harp, "Piazzolla's Histoire du Tango", and "Kreutzer-Boscha's Nocturne No.1" in Bb. Stefan Wendel and Ciara Dabkowski are a violin and harp duo from San Diego, CA. They met playing for the Villa Musica Summer Orchestra in 2016 and regularly perform together in various ensembles, including the Coronado Philharmonia, City Ballet Orchestra, and La Jolla Symphony. Stefan received his degree in harp performance from the Royal Academy of Music in London and now serves as principal harpist with the City Ballet Orchestra while pursuing a graduate degree in Mathematics. Ciara received her degree in Mathematics from UCSD and in addition to her career as a software engineer, serves as orchestra manager and librarian for both the City Ballet Orchestra and Villa Musica Summer Orchestra. This week of Summer Camp is all about fashion design! In this 1-week camp, teens will build skills and understanding so they can dive into their own fashion journey! Teens will learn how to use a dress form, how to read patterns, as well as the process of fashion sketching. They’ll explore the wide world of textiles, and during the week, each student will build their own skills binder that covers techniques like sewing seams, darts & more, that they’ll cover and learn during the course of the week. This camp is for teens ages 13+ years. OPTIONAL | Lunch Hour Supervision If there is a camp ending as ours begins and you need your teen transferred from another camp, let us know! May is National Preservation Month, and Coronado is joining communities nationwide in celebrating our unique heritage! We're fortunate to have so many meaningful historic places, and we'll be highlighting them throughout the month. Our celebrations include a City Council Proclamation, the presentation of plaques to recently designated historic homes, and the beloved Historic Home Tour on Mother's Day, May 11. The celebrations will culminate in the annual Preservation Symposium on Thursday, May 15 from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. The program will include a reception starting at 5:30 p.m. followed by the presentations from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Join Coronado MainStreet, the Historical Association, and the City of Coronado for the Preservation Symposium sponsored by the Coronado Community Foundation as we champion preservation in our community.
