  • Tuesdays, July 8, 15, 22, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. In this intermediate crochet series, Instructor Martina Villanueva will students will expand on stitches learned in our 3-Week Crochet Fundamentals series while teaching you how to create granny squares. Students will learn the fundamentals of crochet pattern reading, how to join granny squares, the many uses for, and how to get started on incorporating granny squares as building blocks for future projects. Students must have a working knowledge of single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), chain (ch) and magic circle. Students are welcome to bring their own yarn and/or hook, but it is not necessary. We will be using size 4 yarn and between 4.00mm and 6.00mm crochet hooks. You don’t have to bring your own supplies but you are welcome to. This is an intermediate Crochet series. Students must have completed 3-Week Crochet Fundamentals or be proficient with single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), chain (ch) and magic circle before beginning the series. All materials included.   • Back for another unforgettable season, The Marine Room’s Summer High Tide Dinner Series returns on June 23 and continues monthly through August 22, inviting guests to experience the beauty of La Jolla’s coastline as waves, driven by the moon’s gravitational pull, surge and crash against the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows. Guests can reserve an early Rising Tide Dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and enjoy the start of the waves paired with either a limited à la carte menu or a three-course dinner crafted by Executive Chef Ananda Bareño for $125 per person. For those seeking the most dramatic views of the evening, the High Tide Dinner begins at 7 p.m. with a specially curated four-course menu by Chef Ananda Bareño, served as the waves reach their peak, and includes live music and a sunset toast for $165 per person. Guests may also upgrade to the Chef’s Table Experience for $250 per person, which includes a sommelier-paired wine experience, additional courses, a visit from the chef, and a take-home gift.   • Explore ceramic handbuilding & funky glazes! Tuesdays, July 22, 29, August 5, 12, 26 From 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., with the last class of the series from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Select a date from the drop-down menu. In this 5-week series, students will learn the basics of handbuilding to create functional pieces with an emphasis on decorative techniques. Working with mid fire clay, we will explore various methods of building forms and decorative techniques with underglazes, slips, glaze, and various experimental materials. Students will complete multiple projects throughout the course with an artistic and creative approach to decorative designs. Inspired by printmaking, painting and drawing, we will explore image transfers, mark making, layering, stencils, and more! Through the use of technique and materials, students will explore the fusion of 2D art and 3D form. Students will be able to utilize a wide array of glazes and colors through the course. The instructor will have a wide array of custom decorative materials for use and sale. All materials provided. Additional materials available via the instructor for a fee.
