Join us on Saturday, July 5 at the City Heights Performance Annex for a FREE performance of "Gretel: the Musical," presented by Riot Productions, Inc. Featuring indie folk rock music on cello, guitar and cajon by composer Jenn Hartman Luck, this retelling of the classic Russian folk tales around “Hansel and Gretel” focuses on the women and girls of the fairy tales. Gretel processes the grief at the death of her mother and the rejection of her stepfamily while on the hero’s journey, facing knights and witches, spells and curses, and through it all the question–how will she survive? Featuring: Priya Richards as Gretel, with BJ Robinson, vocals and cajon, Sarah LeClair, vocals and cajon, Lyric Boothe, vocals and guitar, and Sharon Taylor, cello. Directed by BJ Robinson, assistant directed by Carlyn Thometz, music directed by Sarah LeClair.   • Tour Balboa Park’s iconic Botanical Building—completely restored to its original 1915 appearance, while upgraded for today’s accessibility and sustainability needs. The history of the building is one of perseverance, transformation, and citizen love, resulting today in a magnificent collection of over 1,000 plants, representing more than 180 species from subtropical and tropical environments around the world. Forever Balboa Park offers thematic park tours that focus on the park’s unique biodiversity and highlight the park’s horticultural wonders on the first Saturday of each month. Led by park volunteer and horticultural enthusiast Bill Edwards, the free tours leave from the Visitors Center at 10:00 a.m. unless otherwise indicated. Walks last 90 minutes and are typically less than 1 mile on level terrain. It is advised that potential attendees contact the Balboa Park Visitors Center prior to the scheduled walk to determine if there are any last-minute changes or cancellations to the tours. Noche de Mole features a dinner menu inspired by a variety of regional moles from Mexico, signature beverages, entertainment, and a special preview of more than 25 community altars.
