Union Hall Gallery presents "Hiding in Plain Site," the debut retrospective by San Diego-based artist and designer Joseph A. Henseler, opening Saturday, July 12, 2025. The exhibition features 88 original works—ranging from sculpture and stained glass to painting and architectural design—created over the course of 30 years without public display. The show offers a rare glimpse into the deeply introspective practice of an artist who has quietly created in communion with nature, spirit, and self. Having moved across the country to live in the mountains of San Diego County to be mentored by renowned artist James Hubbell, Henseler’s work is rooted in reflection, emotional depth, and human connection. Opening night includes live music, refreshments, and a Q&A with the artist. The final night of the exhibition will feature a special live performance by Henseler’s wife, Chilean vocalist Lorena Isabell. "Hiding in Plain Site" runs through August 10 at Union Hall Gallery (2323 Broadway #201, San Diego, CA 92102). Admission is free and open to the public. San Diego Foundation ArtWalk is back at Liberty Station for its 20th year, bringing a weekend-long celebration of arts and culture to San Diego’s Liberty Station. The festival celebrates creativity from both sides of the border, with more than 175 artists coming from across several states and Mexico to show and sell their artwork, including paintings, photography, glass and ceramics, jewelry, and sculpture. For families, there will also be a KidsWalk with a variety of hands-on art activities and experiences. The ARTS DISTRICT at Liberty Station has earned its place as San Diego’s premier venue for arts, museums, dining, and entertainment. The fabulous outdoor setting features a verdant lawn and an abundance of free parking. The venue will have a perimeter fence, even though admission is free. The fence allows attendees to enjoy beer and wine (for those 21 years and over), while strolling around the event, rather than having to remain in a beer garden. Guests are asked to show their ID to receive a wristband to be able to purchase alcoholic beverages. Learn to weave a bread basket! Saturday, July 19, from 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. Basketry is an ancient art, practiced by many peoples and cultures. Traditional basket makers used readily available materials, such as sweet grass, pine needles, willow, and thin strips of ash or oak. Marsha teaches Appalachian-style basketry which is a functional form of basketry used for everyday activities. Thus, the basket names often reflect their functions, such as Market Basket, Egg Basket, Herb Drying Basket, and others. Wow your friends and enhance your table with a hand woven Bread Basket. This basket is suitable for beginning basket weavers and includes basic weaving skills that you can use for many future projects. You’ll have a choice of colors for the center section and top off your creation with real leather handles. The Bread Basket measures 12” long x 5” wide and 5” high. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome.
