Join us on June 28 from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. at Forester Creek in Santee for our monthly Community River Clean-up! Come work outdoors with like-minded members of the community to help remove thousands of pounds of trash in just three hours! Each year, San Diego River Park Foundation volunteers remove more than 200,000 pounds of trash from our namesake waterway. Without our amazing volunteers, this trash would be left to pollute native animal habitats, parks and public spaces, leach contaminants into the water, and wash out into our ocean and beaches! Location: 8665 Argent Street, Santee CA 92071. Please park anywhere on Argent St or Prospect Ave. Please do not park in the brewery parking lot. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for the event: - Check-In: 7:45 a.m. - Attire: Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required - All tools and supplies will be provided - Other Things to Bring: Reusable water bottle, hat, other forms of sun protection - Weather: Light rain will not cancel the event - For safety reasons, no pets are allowed at this event - There are no restroom facilities at this location. Start off your Independence Day celebration a day early by bringing a beach chair and the whole family to enjoy Oceanside Fireworks Show. The City of Oceanside will host an incredible fireworks display on Monday, July 3, 2025, at SoCal Soccer Complex at El Corazon. Fireworks will begin at 9 p.m. There will be food available onsite beginning at 5:30 p.m. This year’s event will feature live entertainment, a family fun zone with inflatables, a picnic area, and food vendors. The SoCal Soccer Complex at El Corazon is located at 3300 El Corazon Drive. Parking will be available at the SoCal lot for $12 per car and free parking will be available at the adjacent Ocean Ranch Business Park. RV’s and buses are not permitted. Kumeyaay historian Ethan Banegas Luiseño-Kumeyaay (SDSU-American Indian Studies) discusses the process to develop a community-engaged comic that speaks from the perspective of the Kumeyaay people. This comic is a way to tell stories of Kumeyaay people from past to present and engage with their own communities, schools, and beyond. Hear more about how tribal historians are driving the work of this visual storytelling project as a creative team brings it to life. About Ethan Ethan grew up on the Barona Reservation in San Diego County. He received his Bachelor of Arts in History, Religious Studies, and Political Science in 2009 and his Master of Arts degree in History in 2017 from the University of San Diego (USD). Banegas is owner of Kumeyaay.com and Historian for the San Diego History Center, which operates the Junípero Serra Museum. He was first published in 2017 (Indian Gaming in the Kumeyaay Nation). In 2020, he published the Kumeyaay Oral History Project, a community-based research project, after collecting thirty-three personal interviews, video-taped oral histories, and photographs from San Diego’s First People. In 2024, he published two comics—“Beyond Gaming” and “Our Past, Present, and Future”—and served as project director and author of the Kumeyaay Visual Storytelling Project.
