Poll: Many California Voters Clueless about February Ballot Measures

Lawmakers and others at the State Capitol may be well-versed on the measures Californians will be voting on in February, but it appears voters are not. That’s according to the latest field poll. Marianne Russ reports.

According to the poll just one in four likely voters has seen or heard anything about proposition 93. That’s the one that would change the state’s term limits law --shortening the total number of years a legislator can serve - but allowing them all to be served in one house.

There’s also low voter awareness of four referenda on the ballot to overturn Indian casino compacts the legislature and the Governor approved. Those are known as propositions 94 through 97.

Once given a brief explanation, half said they’d vote yes on the term limits measure. As for the Indian gaming referenda, 39 percent would vote yes to approve the compacts. The Field Poll of 886 likely voters was conducted in mid-December.
