Thursday, April 17, 2008
UCSD and Tijuana's College of the Northern Border formalized their collaboration Thursday. The universities will continue to work together on a wide range of academic and research projects. KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson has details.
The universities will to continue to collaborate across the border on topics including immigration, social science and health. One project already in progress looks at HIV amongst Mexican migrants.
Also included in the universities' agreement is the chance for students and professors to study at the other institution.
Tonatiuh Guillen directs Tijuana's Colegio de la Frontera Norte . He says the relationship helps promote regional understanding.
Guillen: The border issue always has two parts. We don't have the possibility to understand our region with only one view.
The Center for Mexican Studies will lead the program for UCSD.
