Three structurally deficient bridges were found in the Carlsbad area.

A private group out of Washington D.C. called Transportation for America compiled a list of bridges across the U.S. determining how structurally sound each one is.

Transportation for America listed three bridges in Carlsbad as structurally deficient:

  • Carlsbad Blvd crossing Buena Vista Creek
  • El Camino Real crossing Agua Hendionda Creek
  • Carlsbad Blvd Southbound crossing Las Encinas Creek

The website classified "structurally deficient" as, "requiring significant maintenance, rehabilitation or replacement."

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
