Solar power subsidy to be unveiled

California utility regulators say they'll unveil a multi billion dollar solar power subsidy next month. KPBS Reporter Erik Anderson has details.

California utility regulators say they'll unveil a multi billion dollar solar power subsidy next month. Solar power advocates say the California Public Utilities commission is advancing subsidies that the state legislature failed to approve earlier this year. Environment California spokesperson Bernadette Del Chiaro says the PUC will unveil a 10-year plan that could dramatically increase the number of businesses and homes with solar power.

Del Chiaro: "Between $2 billion and $3 billion is what we estimate is needed to spur the market and importantly bring the price of solar power down."

The PUC will unveil the details of it's solar power initiative on December 15. Del Chiaro says solar power advocates will continue to push the legislature to require home builders to offer solar power as an option on all news homes.
