A new unprecedented set of studies will examine how California could better manage and fund its schools. Sacramento reporter, Marianne Russ has the story.
They're tough questions: How can schools use the resources they have more effectively? And what new ones are needed to improve student achievement? 20 different studies - done by independent researchers - will try to answer them. The results could change the shape of the education debate, says Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata:
Perata: It could be and should be the centerpiece of the governor's state of the state next year and should be the driving force behind what we do legislatively and with our budget in 2007.
The Democrat, as well as the Governor's Administration, requested the studies. They'll cost more than two and a half million dollars and will be funded by four major foundations.
