A new survey shows most Californians support Governor Schwarzenegger's idea of requiring everyone in the state to have health insurance. But the Public Policy Institute of California poll reveals some other elements of the governor's plan aren't very popular. KPBS reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story.
The survey reveals nearly nine out of ten Californians say the healthcare system needs to be changed. But most Californians aren't on board with all of the changes Governor Schwarzenegger wants to make.
The governor's healthcare reform package calls for expanding coverage to more of the uninsured -- including undocumented immigrants. The PPIC poll shows 53 percent of state residents are opposed to that idea.
To pay for his reforms, the governor wants doctors to cough up two percent of their gross revenue, and hospitals to give back four percent. More than six out of ten Californians reject that approach.
On the other hand, a vast majority supports the governor's plan of requiring employers to either provide coverage, or pay a fee to the state. Kenny Goldberg, KPBS News.
