Tom Fudge : The ball of Barack Obama's presidential candidacy keeps rolling downhill. Yesterday, the Illinois Democratic senator widened his lead over Hillary Clinton in pledged delegates and the popular vote by winning decisively in North Carolina. He lost in Indiana, but just barely. There, Hillary Clinton won by fewer than two percentage points.
There are still half a dozen primaries to go, but at this point Obama's lead is practically insurmountable. The only hope of the Clinton campaign may be to change the rules of the game by getting the party to seat delegates from Michigan and Florida. Those states' Democratic primaries were disqualified for being held early, in violation of party rules. Obama's name wasn't even on the ballot in Michigan.
