Tax Collector Talks About Reassessing Property Taxes

Maureen Cavanaugh : The collapse of the subprime mortgage loan market, led to tightening credit markets, foreclosures, a slow down in real estate sales...and a big drop in property values. And one of the areas of the country that has seen the biggest decrease in home values is right here in San Diego.
As home values go down, so do property taxes. In fact, many homeowners are working to get their houses re-assessed to get a break on property taxes.

But the less San Diego county takes in on property taxes, the less money it has for some vital services. County Tax Collector-Treasurer Dan McAllister is here to give us details on how our taxes are collected and used.
