Gasoline Price Drops To Lowest Amount Since Jan. 31

SAN DIEGO - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County dropped to its lowest amount since Jan. 31 Friday, falling six-tenths of a cent to $3.832.

The average price has decreased for 23 consecutive days is 5.6 cents less than one week ago, 10.5 cents lower than one month ago and 87.1 cents below what it was one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price has dropped 20.1 cents over the past 23 days, including 1.1 cents on Thursday. The dropping prices were immediately preceded by a 16-day streak of rising prices totaling 18.2 cents.

The streak of decreases is the longest since a 31-day streak from July 24-Aug. 23.

"A year ago at this time, a shortage of summer blend gasoline in California ran up the average to a new record and prices only reversed course after Gov. (Jerry) Brown temporarily eased air quality regulations to ease the shortages,'' said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

"Fortunately it appears the state had no similar problems this year and local drivers can hope for further drops at the pump in November as the cheaper winter blend of gasoline is brought online.''
