U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said more than 200 people were turned back at six California ports of entry at the U.S.-Mexico border between Friday and Monday.
The agency told the San Diego Union-Tribune that some were hiding in trunks or hidden compartments and some tried to use counterfeit documents or papers that didn't belong to them.
During the three days, more than 1,500 pounds of drugs with a street value of $3.6 million were seized at the six ports.
The biggest seizure took place Saturday at Otay Mesa when 71 packages of marijuana were seized from a truck. The 40-year-old driver, a Mexican citizen, was arrested.
Officials say 18 fugitives were arrested on felony warrants for a variety of crimes, including robbery, conspiracy and a sex offense.
