Kolbe: GOP Knew About Foley as Early as 2000

This morning, Rep. Jim Kolbe confirmed a Washington Post report that in 2000 or 2001, his staff notified House leaders of inappropriate contact between resigned Rep. Mark Foley and underage pages.

The news means that the Republican leadership knew of potential issues involving Foley years earlier than has been stated.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert says he believes his staff acted appropriately in handling the situation. Meanwhile, the lawyer for a former page today acknowledged that his client had been interviewed by the FBI.
