State Assemblyman Todd Gloria will join a delegation of lawmakers on a four-day junket to Mexico beginning Wednesday.
The San Diego Democrat and five other legislators mostly representing Southern California are taking the trip in an effort to strengthen the state's relationship with Mexico, Gloria said.
"With the president's continued efforts to remove the United States from its global obligations and his consistent vilification of our southern neighbor, I am proud to represent San Diego and the state of California to carry a much different message — one that promotes collaboration over division," Gloria said. "It is my hope that this visit will strengthen California's bonds with Mexican leaders so that we can reach prudent solutions for each."

The lawmakers will meet with Mexican government officials, business leaders and the U.S. ambassador to Mexico. Discussion topics will include immigration, trade, climate change, cap-and-trade, cross-border pollution, student exchanges and tourism promotion, according to Gloria.
Also attending the trip are Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, D-Lakewood, and Assembly members Jose Medina, D-Riverside, Monique Limon, D- Santa Barbara, Kevin McCarty, D-Sacramento, and Eloise Gomez Reyes, D-San Bernardino.
Taxpayer funds will not be used for the trip. Members are using their campaign funds, according to a Gloria spokesman.
