The final episode in Cinema Junkie's Giving Thanks to Film Editors trilogy. This time I speak with Oscar-nominated film editor Paul Machliss. He has had a wildly creative and innovative partnership with director Edgar Wright on films such as "Baby Driver" and "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World." He talks about having to edit on the set for "Baby Driver" and then has some surprising recommendations for films that highlight diverse editing styles.

This is the third and final podcast in Cinema Junkie's trilogy dedicated to the art and craft of film editing.

I conducted my interviews with Tatiana S. Riegel, Stephen Mirrione and Paul Machliss for the Comic-Con Museum’s Storytelling Across Media (SAM) program back in October. I was so impressed with the wealth of knowledge these film editors had and their insights into cinematic storytelling that I wanted to share their full interviews here on the podcast since I had to cut the three interviews down to a 50 minute panel.

What I love about these editors is that each one provides a different window into their craft and shares different ideas about what makes for a good editor.

Paul Machliss has had a wildly creative collaboration with director Edgar Wright and is seriously taking editing and the technology available to editors to a new level. While many editors may visit a set, Machliss was on set for nearly the entire shooting of "Baby Driver" and was editing on set as scenes were being shoot. That’s rare!

Machliss talks about his work with Wright and offers some surprising film recommendations for appreciating the diverse ways editing can impact cinematic storytelling.

I want to thank the Comic-Con Museum and American Cinema Editors (ACE) for their help is arranging these interviews.

As this crazy year comes to an end, I want to thank you for listening and wish you all a very happy holiday. Cinema Junkie will be taking a short break and will be back in January with all new episodes and maybe a few changes for the new year. Please follow me on Twitter and Instagram and like my Cinema Junkie Facebook page. I’d love to hear from you with any feedback or suggestions you have as I try to improve the podcast.
