Every year, by the end of April, The Netherlands turn orange to celebrate the Dutch King’s Birthday. Dutch and Dutch-minded communities all over the World join in. So does the Dutch community in San Diego. For one day, Dutch and Dutch-minded San Diegans take on the orange, the color of the royal Dutch family. Come join us in celebrating the King’s Birthday with Dutch and Indonesian traditional food and drinks, music from our Belgian DJ, traditional children’s games, a kid’s flea market and lots of entertainment. Tuesdays, June 3, 10, 17, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Absolute Beginner Crochet: Getting Starting! In this crochet workshop, students will learn the fundamental skills of crochet, including starting a project, basic stitches like single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), chain (ch) magic circle, and tying off. This three-week course will allow students to learn and practice the basics in-studio, practice at home, and then return with their questions and learn more. No experience necessary. Students are welcome to bring their own yarn and/or hook, but it is not necessary. We will be using size 4 yarn and between 4.00mm and 6.00mm crochet hooks. You don’t have to bring your own supplies but you are welcome to. All materials included. This event serves as a way to bring help and hope to the thousands of individuals and families struggling through the unforgiving cycle of addiction and marks McAlister Institute’s 48th year of transforming lives, one person at a time. The Walk for Sobriety is not only an opportunity to raise funds for life-saving services, but also a positive way to increase awareness and support the power of recovery. Walkers, runners, and online supporters can spread a powerful message on the day of the walk by wearing the number of days they—or their loved ones—have been clean and sober, and what it means to them. Registration costs $35 per adult and $5 per child (ages 12 and under). All proceeds from the Walk for Sobriety benefit McAlister Institute, one of San Diego's leading resources for substance abuse treatment and recovery programs.
