  • AIGA SD Hosts World Premiere of Graphis Designers for Peace Poster Exhibit Graphis’ Designers for Peace: United with Ukraine is a global juried exhibition of contemporary poster art to create a united voice of opposition to the war in Ukraine. This exhibition features more than 60 pieces of poster art from over 30 countries, curated by Graphis CEO B. Martin Pedersen, and jury chair, Kit Hinrichs of Studio Hinrichs. AIGA San Diego was chosen by Graphis to be the first city in the world to showcase this exhibit. Graphis, Inc. is an international publisher of books and wards for the visual communications industry. Based in New York City, Graphis was founded in 1944 by Walter Herdeg and Dr. Walter Amstutz in Zurich, Switzerland. On view Nov. 16 through Dec. 30, 2022. Opening reception information: Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022 6-8 p.m. UC San Diego Park & Market Tickets here. Designer Kit Hinrichs and other artists will be onsite to sign posters at the exhibit opening. Posters and a show catalog of the exhibit will be available for sale at the event. Proceeds from this event benefit Humanitarian Aid for the people of the Ukraine.   • WHO: Sangita Iyer is a biologist, National Geographic Explorer, multiple award-winning nature and wildlife filmmaker, former broadcast journalist and author of the 2022 Amazon bestseller "Gods in Shackles: What Elephants Can Teach Us About Empathy, Resilience and Freedom". She is also the Founder of Voice for Asian Elephants Society (VAES), a 501(c)(3) organization with a vision to protect endangered Asian elephants and their habitats in India, while also ensuring that native people and those living near the forest fringes have their basic needs met, so they will be inspired to coexist peacefully with these magnificent animals. Sangita recently produced a 26-part short docu-series about Asian elephants, funded by the National Geographic Society’s storytelling grant. She’s also the director and producer of the globally acclaimed epic documentary, Gods in Shackles, which was nominated at the United Nations General Assembly, and has garnered 13 international film festival awards. Sangita received the “Nari Shakthi Puraskaar” – Women Power Award – the highest award for women making a difference in India from the country’s President for her courage to expose the plight of captive elephants that are being exploited for profit behind the veil of culture and religion. WHAT: A fun evening of films, art, and delicious food to save Asian elephants! Sangita will be speak about the human/elephant conflict in India and screen two of her National Geographic short films about elephants as well as sign her best-selling book, Gods in Shackles. Amy Burkman will be doing a live art performance! There will be wine, appetizers, cupcakes and a live and silent auction. This is a fundraiser for Voice for Asian Elephants Society, founded by Sangita and endorsed by Dr. Jane Goodall. About the Program San Diego Underground Film Festival (SDUFF) has quickly risen the ranks to become one of the nation's most challenging, nurturing, and down to earth film festivals. Known for taking risks on young talent alongside showcasing legendary filmmakers, SDUFF prides itself on being a festival by and for disciples of the moving image. Their curator, Ryan Betschart (class of 2009), has programmed a special selection of films from their upcoming 2022 festival.
