EC Gallery will have 80 original animation cels works of art in their "Vintage Animation Show." The show will feature a gallery of animated original cels that were used to create all the iconic cartoons from Disney to Hannah Barbara through Warner Bros. Because the cels are where it all started, it is a cool off-site Con activation spot. Cel animation was a dominant animation technique, particularly in the 20th century, before the rise of computer animation. Cel art is extremely popular and highly sought after by collectors. All the cels are pretty fun and interesting but one of the cels they will have is from Snow White which is the first animated full-length movie created from cels. It even won an honorary Academy Award (an Oscar) in 1939 for its significance as a pioneering work in animated film. Join a community of like-minded volunteers working to restore the San Diego River Estuary - a highly sensitive habitat that is home to several endangered species. By removing invasive plants, you’ll directly support the return of native pollinators and wildlife, prevent erosion, improve water quality, and protect endangered species, like the California Least Tern. Together, we will create a healthier, more accessible natural space for the entire community to enjoy. This is a huge effort and a great opportunity for those looking to try out field work, connect with fellow nature lovers, make a meaningful difference for a critical and fragile ecosystem, and explore the beautiful estuary habitat! We’d love to see you there! At the same time, the education team will also be promoting our Outdoor Education Field Trip programs. We offer free, nature-focused STEM field trips that encourage students to explore and learn about the significance of the San Diego River through hands-on activities, experiments, and games. If you care about the environment and don't mind getting a little dirty, then this may be the perfect fit for you! Join us on August 9 from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. for a riverbed clean-up in the Mission Valley Preserve. The River Rescue Team mobilizes to target trash for removal every Saturday, and for this date, we are looking for a few extra hands (no experience necessary!) to remove trash and debris from this sensitive habitat. We invite you to join us for just this date, but if you have a good time, ask us for more information about coming out for future River Rescue clean-up events! Each year, San Diego River Park Foundation volunteers remove more than 200,000 pounds of trash from our namesake waterway. Without our amazing volunteers, this trash would be left to pollute native animal habitats, parks and public spaces, leach contaminants into the water, and wash out into our ocean and beaches! Location: Cottonwood Grove / Mission Valley Preserve South: Presidio Little League baseball fields at Sefton Park are located at the west end of Hotel Circle Place. The closest street address to the Little League Fields is the U-Haul near the entrance to the park, at 2504 Hotel Circle Pl, San Diego, CA 92108. When you arrive at the U-Haul, continue into the dirt lot of the baseball fields, and stay to the right to pass the fields and park near the Mission Valley Preserve kiosk at the far west end of the baseball fields. Please do not drive on the paved bike path. Park + Meet: Park in the dirt lot for the baseball fields. Map We will meet at Cottonwood Grove.
