Theater for Young Professionals is holding auditions for "CHICAGO" Teen Edition, our third show of the 2025 season, on Monday, June 23 from 4:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. at our rehearsal space at 7960 University Ave, Suite 240/250, La Mesa CA 91942. Callbacks are by invitation only on Tuesday, June 24 from 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. This show is for actors 12 years old and older. To register for an audition time, please email your headshot and resume to Jessica at jessica@typsandiego.org. Please prepare a one-minute song selection in a musical theater style. You will sing with a backing track that you provide. NO a cappella auditions. Please check-in 15 minutes prior to your audition time. We will consider video auditions. **If you have been in one of our shows over the past year, then you are not required to audition. However, you must send us an email indicating your interest. You will be invited straight to callbacks. We are looking for a diverse cast to bring this popular musical to life. We will consider double casting some of the roles if needed. Please let us know if you are interested in splitting a role with another actor. The rehearsal and show schedule are below. Actors are allowed two conflicts, but we prefer they not have any conflicts. You are not allowed to have a conflict the two week before tech or during tech week. There is a production fee of $400 for company members, $475 for non-company members, and parents are required to volunteer at the box office for two performances. After years of rising overdose deaths led by opiods like fentanyl, the U.S. recorded its steepest drop in overdose deaths ever in 2024. What has led to the big decline in overdose deaths in the country, and here in San Diego County?

When managed poorly, storm water run-off can erode and wash away topsoil that can pollute our waterways with sediment, chemicals, and nutrients. Join us at the beautiful Water Conservation Garden to learn how to combat these concerns, whether in your small backyard or larger farm or ranch. Solana Center Educator Deanna Milton and guest speaker Craig Kolodge, PhD, Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control will explore effective compost application as a means of watershed protection through a case study of the manure composting demonstration site at Ramona’s International Equestrian Center. This workshop will conclude with a tour of the Water Conservation Garden’s watershed protection features. Panelist Craig Kolodge, Ph.D., is the former academic advisor, field plant pathologist and county director for the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) in Santa Clara County. He currently serves as the Business Development and Sustainability Manager for San Pasqual Valley Soils. Craig is a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) and expert in the use of compost-based Sustainable Management Practices (SMPs) for stormwater management and industrial pollution management (Trainer of Record for Qualified Industrial Stormwater Practitioner – QISP statewide program). San Diego Black Arts & Culture District Music Festival Saturday, June 28, 2025 Gates Open: noon – 8 p.m. Martin Luther King Jr. Park 6401 Skyline Drive, San Diego, CA 92114 (Festival takes place on the 65th Street side of the park) Free and open to the public | Family-friendly | All ages welcome The San Diego Black Arts & Culture District Music Festival returns on Saturday, June 28, 2025, for a full day of live music, cultural exhibits, family activities, and community celebration. Held at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in the heart of Southeast San Diego, this free event honors the depth and diversity of Black artistic expression. Curated by Artistic Director Kamau Kenyatta and hosted by Dominic Malone, the festival features an exciting lineup of live performances. The music begins at noon with an opening set from Miki Vale, followed by performances starting at 1:45 p.m. in the following order: Miki Vale, C.C. Carter, Daneen Wilburn, Lenny “Fuzzy” Rankins, and Ben Williams. All-day activities include a STEAM Tent hosted by the Elementary Institute of Science, an African Artifacts Exhibit presented by San Diego Mesa College, and a sneak peek at “We Stand on Their Shoulders,” an augmented reality exhibit presented by the San Diego African American Museum of Fine Art. A wide range of food and non-food vendors will also be available throughout the day. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy a full day of music, culture, and community connection. This event is a celebration of Black creativity, heritage, and unity.
