Kids explore sculpture through fun craft mediums! Monday through Friday June 9 – 13 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Ages 7-12 years welcome! This week of Summer Camp is all about sculpting with a variety of fun traditional materials & mediums! Kids will explore sculpture through planning, designing and creating: masks with paper maché, wooden sculptures, tiny pottery with ceramic wheel throwing, clay handbuilding and more! It’s a fun week of hands-on learning focusing on three-dimensional design with creativity and skill-building with a variety of instructor-artists at the Craft Collective Studio! This camp is recommended for kids ages 7-12 years. OPTIONAL | Lunch Hour Supervision If there is a camp ending as ours begins and you need your child transferred from another camp, let us know! This week of Summer Camp is all about cooking with farm-to-table ingredients and an equal mix of fun, traditional handmaking & crafting! Is your child curious about where their food comes from? Does your child love to make crafts? This summer, open their world to exploring the bounty of local, colorful ingredients and how those foods got from the ground to our plates with local culinary arts instructors from Sticky Fingers Cooking. Did your child know that carrots can improve your eyesight, and cherries can help improve your memory? Young chefs will also learn what makes certain ingredients super healthy for the body and how delicious they can taste, while practicing basic cooking skills and techniques on their way to becoming super chefs! Create imagery or sculptures using the process of paper making! Paper is a material that is a staple in nearly every art form across the world, be it for drawing, painting or even sculpture. Inspired by different methods of paper making from easter Asia, and paper based arts such as Mexican cartonería, Students will learn how to create paper pulp using recycled paper, ways to dye the paper pulp and how to create imbedded imagery in sheets of paper or how to use the pulp as a “paper clay” to create sculptures. Let's move away from the mass-produced and make our own set of handmade, functional pieces. In this beginner-friendly course, students will learn hand-building techniques to create functional pottery, including but not limited to cups, bowls, and plates. Starting with these simple forms, students will learn the basics, develop their technique and get creative! The possibilities are endless and students will be able to create their own set, unique to their preferences and home use. The last class will be reserved for glazing. While this is a beginner-friendly course, intermediate students may join. Materials: Students must purchase a rolling pin; we'll use these to roll out slabs. Please bring an apron, hand towel, and notebook to keep track of wonderful ideas. Students may also bring their own tools or purchase a standard tool kit if they wish, but not required. Kids explore ceramics and woodworking! Mon through Fri | July 28 – Aug 1 | 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Ages 7-12 years welcome! This week of Summer Camp is all about ceramics & woodworking for kids! Kids learn woodworking hand tool techniques from woodworking professional, Steffanie Dotson. A mom, woodworker, furniture maker, and Executive Director at San Diego Craft Collective, she teaches woodworking to both children and adults year-round. With a focus on safety, Steffanie creatively mentors children and fosters confidence through woodworking. Kids will also explore ceramics with visual artist-educator, Lydia Kardos. Each camper will learn and practice ceramic hand building techniques to make fun, long-lasting projects in this traditional medium full of creative flexibility. This camp is for kids, ages 7-12 years. Projects and depth of learning are matched up to the children’s age/ability.
