The sculptural relief combines the dimensionality of sculpture with the compositional demands of drawing to create an exciting artistic challenge. In this course students will make three relief sculptures, each of varying depths (a low-relief, mid-relief and high-relief). We will work with the model as well as with drapery in order to study the way form can be compressed from full dimensionality into low and mid relief. Of Stardust Live offers innovative pop up Art + Music experiences open to all levels of art exposure! We explore the fusion between meditation, movement, community, and creation in an intimate container. This is a welcoming space to play, create, dream, evolve. The evening will begin with connected breath, coherent heart meditation, and eye gazing and then we will draw our muses. Open new channels of creativity and drop out of the thinking, judging mind, and into the body and its beautiful intuition. It’s not about being a professional artist, everyone has the capacity to create art and tap into their unique way of expressing it. 1-2 live nude figure models will begin with short poses for quick sketches and progress into longer 5-15 min held poses as we go deeper into the practice. Body Rock Dance Competition, the Iconic International Dance Event, is celebrating its 25th year of production. Beginning in the year 2000, BODY ROCK has grown to a huge platform for aspiring dancers in the Global Dance Community. With its humble beginnings on a gym floor in San Diego, our passion for dance and hip hop came from the spread of dance teams up and down California. We presented one of the first dance competitions to showcase street dance crews and professional choreography teams and the rest was history! With the creation of Youtube in the mid 2000’s, our show went viral and transformed the accessibility of dance crew videos and changed how dancers were viewed in the mainstream media. We continue to influence the atmosphere of local dance creating outlets for youth, maintaining a safe and inclusive staff, and promoting authentic community relationships. We not only helped to move our dance community forward, but created a path for the next generation of dancers. Our legacy includes groups and choreographers such as the Jabbawockeez, Keone & Mari Madrid, Kyle Hanagami, The Kinjaz and Tessandra Chavez. Some crews like Korea’s “Just Jerk” have also become Viral on Youtube and TikTok with over millions of views. Annually, our show draws a crowd of +2000 people and our participants now include groups from Mexico, Germany, New Zealand, China, Australia, Korea, Russia, the Philippines and Japan! We have also expanded and have qualifier shows in Asia and Latin America. The 103rd annual Coronado Flower Show is set to take place, April 12-13, 2025. Organized by the Coronado Floral Association (CFA), this is the largest tented flower show in the U.S. and Coronado’s longest running tradition, which includes an array of events leading up to and throughout the two-day festival. As part of “Beyond the Tent,” an effort to engage and expand the event throughout the island, and the grand prequel to the show, the beloved Coronado Flower Show kicks off with its local Homefront Judging Competition, March 28-30, where Coronado residents will prep and primp their gardens, home fronts, and store fronts in hopes of winning the elusive blue ribbons. More than 100 volunteer judges will examine and award competitive ribbons to Coronado home fronts, apartment buildings, condominium complexes, churches, businesses, and school gardens. Another prelude to the event this year, the festival will host a Family Movie Night on the eve of the event weekend, Friday, April 11 in Spreckels Park, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The main event, the Coronado Flower Show, is divided into five divisions – Horticulture, Design, Special Exhibits, Youth and Botanical Arts. The show has been a spring tradition since 1922 and is one of the largest tented flower shows in the U.S. Located at Spreckels Park, this two-day event includes landscape displays, a variety of floral competitions, educational lectures and demonstrations, live bandstand entertainment, food, a beer & wine garden with locally crafted beers, and shopping. Another special feature of the weekend is the Saturday night party, called the 1922 Club. The event includes food, drinks, and dancing all under the iconic tents of the Coronado Flower Show. The Association will also host its Annual Meeting “Feast & Fareway” on Sunday, March 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will honor the traditions and people who built and grew the organization into the celebrated community staple that it is today.
