This watercolor class is about understanding the color, organization, and beauty of flowers. They can be so inspiring from which to paint! We will paint from real flowers as well as from photos, since some flowers do not last long when picked or they aren’t available. To capture their beauty, we will experiment with a variety of techniques and approaches. I encourage you to watch the demonstrations and then explore your own way of putting brush to paper. Please bring tube paints only and not paint pans. Be prepared to paint on the first day. The exhibition "La Jolla Surf: Culture, Art, Craft" invites viewers into the world of surfing through iconic photography by Roy Porello, Jeff Divine, and Ron Church, original artwork by award winning designer John Van Hamersveld, and surf boards from the greatest shapers in the region. A central focus of the exhibition is original interview footage with local surfers created by Curator John Durant. Visitors will hear firsthand accounts of how the surfing community developed, how it has evolved over time, and the powerful connection to, and appreciation of the ocean and nature that surfing engenders. About the artist: Minnie Valero, born in Argentina, is an accomplished artist with degrees from both Argentinian and American universities, including a Master’s from UCLA. Over the past 20 years, she has exhibited her work widely across the United States, France, and other European countries, as well as in Egypt, China, and South Korea. Honored as a guest at the Nepal International Watercolor Festival, Minnie has received numerous awards in France, South Korea, and the U.S. She has also participated in prestigious artist residencies in Sweden, Italy, Hungary, Costa Rica, and China, each culminating in a solo exhibition. Working with watercolor, acrylic, oil, and pastel, Minnie adapts her medium to reflect the essence of each piece. As a conceptual artist, her creations range from representational to abstract, guided by her emotions, mood, and inspiration.
