In this workshop we will uncover the soul of the writing with fun and interactive voice techniques to make the storytelling as dynamic as possible. Students will also learn how to craft smooth transitions as well as how to enter and exit a chapter or scene. Participants will gain a better understanding how to create a seamless text that takes the reader between past memories (flashbacks) and present-day experiences and observations. We will work on bringing the theme of the piece to life so that the manuscript will resonate with universal meaning. Symbolism will also be explored as a way to deepen the writing and flesh out the theme of your book. Class structure: Except for the first class, the first hour will be lecture and the second hour will be read and critique where participants can workshop their material or class assignments. Tone of class: We strive to create a supportive, nurturing environment where participants feel encouraged to share, risk and connect to their most creative self. • Join us to get outside, immerse yourself in nature, and make a positive impact for the San Diego River! Join a community of like-minded volunteers working to restore the San Diego River Estuary- a highly sensitive habitat that is home to several endangered species. By removing invasive plants, you’ll directly support the return of native pollinators and wildlife, prevent erosion, improve water quality, and protect endangered species, like the California Least Tern. Together, we will create a healthier, more accessible natural space for the entire community to enjoy. This is a huge effort and a great opportunity for those looking to try out field work, connect with fellow nature lovers, make a meaningful difference for a critical and fragile ecosystem, and explore the beautiful estuary habitat! We’d love to see you there! What to Expect: Many of these invasive plant species are small annuals that require hand pulling, so be prepared to get dirty. All necessary tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own gloves or safety glasses if preferred. Who Would Be Perfect for the Team: We welcome individuals from all walks of life! Retired folks can use their time and experience to contribute to the environment, while students seeking hands-on experience in habitat restoration can gain valuable knowledge and skills. Families are also encouraged to participate, as our activities are a great way to bond and instill a sense of stewardship for the natural world in children. If you are passionate about making a difference and want to help restore the San Diego River, you would be an ideal fit for our team. Please note: The meeting location is NEAR the address listed.
