Cobby Brzeski is a multi-genre, multi-instrumental musical artist and songwriter originally from Naples, Florida, and is now based in San Diego, CA. Cobby’s firm grasp of harmony, playful melody writing, and charming voice has created new fresh new environment for jazz to shine once again. While mainly focused on Jazz in the Swing Idiom, Cobby’s is equally versed in a wide variety of musical genres ranging from Indie-Acoustic, R&B, Pop, etc.. Described as a vintage girl in a modern world, Cobby’s music possesses a natural gift for sensitive, relatable storytelling and is a blend of influences from Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Helen Forrest, The Andrew Sisters and others, twisted with modern influences like Jason Mraz, Cyrille Aimee, and Post Modern Jukebox. Three survivors of a chaotic moment in hip-hop conjure its best qualities, a decade and a few major career twists later, for three new albums released on the same day.

Celebrating the creativity of women composers, Music SHE Wrote is an ode to the power of artistic expression and a tribute to the indomitable spirit of female creators. Highlights include Libby Larsen’s Quartet She Wrote, dedicated to the harmonious celebration of female prowess, and Fanmi Imèn for flute and piano by Valerie Coleman, which weaves together a rich tapestry of emotions and cultures. Extraordinary soprano Tasha Koontz joins Camarada to perform works by Amy Beach and songs from the American Songbook. Composers Carlisle Floyd and Gabriela Lena Frank are also spotlighted in this celebration of music by, for, and about women. Paul Combs holds a B.Mus. in composition from the Philadelphia Musical Academy and a M.M. in performance at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. His eclectic career has included performing, composing for theater, film radio and television, and producing and announcing at radio stations in Philadelphia and Boston. From 1986 to 1999 he worked full-time in music education. As a music education activist he was a founding member and two-term Chair of the Society for General Music in Massachusetts (SGMM), and later sat on the Board of the Massachusetts Association for Jazz Education (MAJE). “Paul plays heavenly alto.” Valerie Ridenour – Key West, The Newspaper Most recently Mr. Combs taught wind instruments privately and was on the faculty of the Lowell Jazz Day Camp. He also directed the Jazz Ensemble of the Chelmsford Community Band. The California Festival takes place Nov. 3-19 across the state, with dozens of distinct performances throughout San Diego spotlighting new musical compositions written in the last five years.

My dad had Jobim’s bossa nova on the turntable and as a kid, even while I was in the trenches with rock music, Jobim’s music touched me deeply. There’s something magic about the rhythm of samba coupled with the harmonic wealth of jazz that seduces the ear and makes us live upgraded lives. Listen to Corcovado and tell me there isn’t divine beauty hovering in the air waves. For this concert, we explore the full spectrum of Antônio’s vast wealth of songs, including “Agua De Beber,” “Wave,” “Waters of March,” “Girl From Ipanema,” “Desafinado,” “One Note Samba,” and the list goes off into space. I’ve even put together a mega medley that touches down to various gorgeous locales of Jobim-dom. Almost hilarious!" She welcomes you to the show, thanks you for coming, and the band rips into its opening chords. As dancers rush to the floor, the smile on Mercedes’ face grows more radiant; you’re in her world and nothing else matters. You might think she was destined to do this, but you’d be wrong. Moore grew up doubting her skills, “I didn’t think that I could sing.” She says. “I didn’t think it was possible.” That was then, this is now. Today, fronting her own band, Mercedes works hard to be more than a voice. She wants fans to feel the music, the way she feels the music. Watching faces in the crowd on this night, as Mercedes swings through an extensive playlist of ballads, blues, and soul shakers, it’s obvious she has them right where she wants them. Yet, the most remarkable aspect of this story, the woman has only been singing professionally for a little more than eight years. Eight years. Let there be no doubt, Mercedes Moore is making the most of her time. As a three-time San Diego Music Award nominee, Moore performs regularly with some of Southern California’s premier musicians. The list is endless–Taryn Donath, John Simons, Mark Campbell, Marc Ramos, Tracy Wiebeck, Kurt Kalker, Matt Taylor, Steve Wilcox, Scot Smart, Missy Andersen, Sharifah Muhammad, and Laura Chavez–to name but a few. When asked, Moore is straightforward about the multitude of players. “It just makes you a better singer.” She smiles. “And different people have different strengths. Plus, I want to learn, so I can be better.” It appears to be working. Mercedes Moore is currently juggling four major projects and her music can range from blues, gospel, R&B and soul.
