Peninsula Community Senior Center (PCSC), formerly Peninsula Shepherd Center, is pleased to announce our Summer Celebration, Saturday, June 14, 2025! PCSC’s annual fundraiser, Summer Celebration proceeds will go toward enhancing PCSC Aging in Place programs and services for older adults. Thank you for considering donating to the Peninsula Community Senior Center for the Opportunity Drawing and Silent Auction. Donations such as gift cards, coupons, gift baskets and merchandise are always appreciated by our guests. This year’s event, Summer Celebration, will include a delicious luncheon, entertainment, door prizes, an Opportunity Drawing, Live and Silent Auctions and Vendor Fair at All Souls’ Episcopal Church’s Gooden Hall and Patio. PCSC’s mission is to provide a support system that helps older adults remain independent and in their own homes for as long as possible. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of life of older adults in the Peninsula Communities of Point Loma, Ocean Beach and the Midway-Sports Arena District of San Diego. We support this underserved population by providing transportation services, activities in our Senior Lounge and hosting excursions throughout San Diego. Join us on June 28 from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. at Forester Creek in Santee for our monthly community river clean-up! Come work outdoors with like-minded members of the community to help remove thousands of pounds of trash in just three hours! Each year, San Diego River Park Foundation volunteers remove more than 200,000 pounds of trash from our namesake waterway. Without our amazing volunteers, this trash would be left to pollute native animal habitats, parks and public spaces, leach contaminants into the water, and wash out into our ocean and beaches! Location: 8665 Argent Street, Santee CA 92071. Please park anywhere on Argent St or Prospect Ave. Please do not park in the brewery parking lot. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for the event: - Check-In: 7:45 a.m. - Attire: Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required - All tools and supplies will be provided - Other Things to Bring: Reusable water bottle, hat, other forms of sun protection - Weather: Light rain will not cancel the event - For safety reasons, no pets are allowed at this event There are no restroom facilities at this location. Leucadia-based mixed media artist Roy Jenuine hosts an exhibit – "Roy Jenuine: Modern Folk Art" – in Solana Beach, showcasing a lifetime of work from 1978 through today. Jenuine has spent his life’s work blending wood, photography and found materials to create artful masterpieces spanning functional furniture to mixed-media assemblage. The temporary, early summer exhibition will take place from June 9 and run through July 6, with an opening night reception, Friday, June 13 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Following the opening party, which is open to the public, the gallery will be open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jenuine’s work explores materials, finishes, and craftsmanship, as well as observations about his surroundings. He finds humor in the everyday, captures nostalgia, pushes the boundaries of function and form. He aligns himself with folk art and architecture, addressing both complex modernist aesthetics and found elements from the salvage yard. Drawing from his childhood in Los Angeles, early 1970s residency at the radical architectural project Arcosanti, and formal training at San Diego State University, Jenuine has developed a distinctive visual vocabulary that is rigorous, fun, meditative and truly original. Junior Over The Line The Junior Over the Line Tournament is an annual event that brings together young athletes from across the region to compete in the exciting Over the Line (OTL) sport. This unique 3-player softball type game is open to junior players of all skill levels, allowing beginners to learn the game and experienced players to showcase their talents. The Junior Over the Line Tournament participants can look forward to a day of fun in the sun, filled with laughter, excitement, and the thrill of competition. The chance to test their skills against teams from different backgrounds adds an element of adventure. Event Information Junior Over-The-Line® is a unique 3-player softball type game played on sand. The play area is marked out using rope and staked into the ground in a triangle pattern. Each team pitches to its players. The key rule is to hit a softball-type ball over the line to effect a hit, with 3 hits resulting in a run. Notably, there is no running of bases, making it a distinctive and exciting game. Junior OTL is played the same way adult Over-The-Line is. The difference is court size. The peewee division is co-ed and played on a 35′ court, using a safety softball and hitting off a tee. For ages 9-11 and 12-14, the court size is 45′, and it uses a standard OTL ball and pitching. All other divisions use standard-sized courts, balls, and pitching. Gloves are allowed for all divisions except the 18-20-year-old boys division. Round-robin formats are used, with 4 to 5 teams per court. Due to single-elimination play, awards are given to 1st—and 2nd-place teams. Held every summer since 1998, the Carlsbad Village Association’s Art in the Village will return on Sunday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for its 27th year! This one-day, open-air art show brings together 150 local and regional fine artists for a dynamic, coastal-influenced art show. All artwork is juried guaranteeing excellent quality in a wide variety of mediums including oil, watercolor, mixed media, digital, glasswork, photography, woodworking, jewelry, pottery, sculpture, and more. Patrons can interact with the artists in their booths, and all artwork on display is for purchase. Celebrating the dynamic art culture in Carlsbad Village and the surrounding areas, this annual event attracts approximately 10,000 art enthusiasts each year. Starting at 10 a.m., just two blocks from Carlsbad State Beach, attendees can browse vibrant exhibits and meet the artists along State Street and Grand Avenue. Art in the Village also features: • Three musical acts, including live performance art on the State Street Main Stage. • Local sidewalk musicians playing throughout the venue during the day. • Live glassblowing by Barrio Glassworks. • Sculpting with live models by Lieu de Sculpture. • Chalk Zone with live painting by multiple local and regional artists. • Free art making pavilion for children and their families, called "Pop-Up Art: An Interactive Encounter," operated by the City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts. • Face painting for kids.
