Return to the intersection of music + dance at the "Lineage Show." On Sunday, June 29, the "Lineage Showcase" will bring the audience back to the powerful and ancient intersection of live music + improvisational dance. This 60 minute set will honor the diversity of Afro-Latin rhythms, and the ways movement and music connect us across generations. The showcase features professional dancers across all genres organized by Natasha Tia collaborating in real time with Mambo Nocturno, an incredible 13-piece live band led by Omar López. Using suspended plexiglass, she creates layered, shifting compositions where shadows become an integral part of the artwork—always present yet often overlooked. In a fast-paced world that demands quick judgments, Kane-Murrell invites viewers to slow down, engage in deep looking, and discover the quiet beauty in the fleeting. Her work is a meditation on time, transformation, and renewal, offering a space for contemplation and discovery. On Saturday, April 26, 2025, the public is invited to participate in this event which is more than just a fundraiser; it is an opportunity to come together as a community, experience the creativity of wearable art, and connect over shared stories, food, and laughter. The event will include the following: · A Wearable Art Show, featuring garments inspired by historical events and reimagined for modern expression. · A Hands-On Art Engagement, where community members can create and explore textile art firsthand. · A lively atmosphere of gathering over delicious food and drinks, fostering meaningful connections. · Silent and Live Auctions, showcasing a stunning collection of artwork, experiences, and exclusive items, all to support our goal of raising necessary funds to empower artists and sustain our mission. The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library is pleased to present the 2025 spring season of the Acoustic Evenings concert series, beginning May 16. The Acoustic Evenings series at the Athenaeum showcases some of the finest acoustic musicians in San Diego. Multiple acts fill each program, and attentive audiences delight in the intimacy of the unplugged storytelling format. San Diego Music Hall of Fame founder Jefferson Jay organizes and hosts the series. The project advances the Athenaeum’s commitment to support diverse San Diego talent. Master the Art of Sourdough! Saturday, April 26, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. This 2-hour class introduces intermediate level topics in sourdough baking, such as heirloom wheat varieties, inclusions, discard recipes, a new less time-intensive bread recipe, and bulk baking. This workshop includes your own take-home loaf of sourdough bread (to bake the next morning). Prerequisite: It is helpful if you have already taken Hands-On Sourdough Bread Workshop &/or already know how to maintain a starter and bake a loaf of sourdough bread before taking this class. We won’t be covering the basic bread recipe or basic starter maintenance. This workshop is for ages 16+years.
