Tony Award Winning Musical Comes to Civic Theater

Tom Fudge : Spelling Bees have become a pretty popular source of drama lately. Within the past year we’ve seen two popular movies based on spelling bees: Bee Season and Akeelah and the Bee. Broadway has also produced a musical with a spelling bee at its core.

The show is called The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee . The show has won two Tony Awards for best book and best featured actor. And it’s now on stage at the San Diego Civic theater. Being a live play, it allows for a certain amount of change and spontaneity from show to show. And The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee does this by getting its audience involved.
