San Diego Congressman Duncan Hunter says he supports President Bush's plan to beef up the military. Hunter wants to recruit about 50,000 soldiers to the Army and 8,000 more Marines.
Duncan Hunter: That would give immensely more striking power to our ground forces whether they're Army or Marine Corps, and it will also provide a little more downtime for our soldiers and Marines when they come home meaning they wont have to rotate back into Iraq or Afghanistan so quickly, because there will be more people to share that burden and take that load.
Hunter does not support sending more troops to Iraq, however. He says America faces "a dangerous century" because of threats from Iran and North Korea. And he says China's growing military is turning that country into a superpower. The lawmaker spoke on the San Diego waterfront Thursday. He's head of the House Armed Services Committee until Democrats take Congress in January.
