Five elected officials who favored plans by security firm Blackwater USA to build a training camp in San Diego's back country are headed for a recall. The registrar of voters is scheduled to announce a recall election date for the Potrero Planning Group tomorrow. KPBS Reporter Amita Sharma has more.
The Potrero Planning Group has voted twice to back Blackwater's proposal to build a center for military and police instruction on land now occupied by a cattle ranch. Though the group's vote is advisory, county officials say it holds a lot of sway. Recall organizers oppose Blackwater's plans. They say it will ruin the town's bucolic character. Carl Meyer is spearheading the recall drive. He says the current planning board is out of step with its constituents.
Meyer: They ignored our concerns….to do this.
Potrero Planning Group members did not return calls. County supervisors will make the final decision about the project.
