The average American eats almost five pounds of hydrogenated oil each year. And California is considering a state-wide ban on trans fat. Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia has proposed a bill that would bring sweeping changes to California fryers, and some say our health. This follows a recently-passed trans fat ban for New York City restaurants. Government aside, food giants such as Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell and Starbucks are getting rid of the hydrogenated oils.
