Tom Fudge: Supporters of Cedros Crossing, a $50 million development project, say it will be a shot in the arm for central Solana Beach. Located right at the city's coaster station, it would create more than 140 residential units. It would include a parking garage, retail and office space, and a new space for the high-respected North Coast Repertory Theater.
Its location next to the train station makes people call it transit friendly, just what we may need in suburban San Diego. But last week the city council voted to extend the community discussion of the project by "recirculating" the project's environmental impact station. Some say it's a delay that could kill Cedros Crossing, or at least major parts of it. Why is Solana Beach being so resistant to a plan that's been in the works for five years?
