Tom Fudge : If you own a cell phone you have almost certainly used it from your car. If you're consciencious, you pull over and stop before you dial or talk on the phone... but who's got time for that!
Well, as of Tuesday, a lot of people are going to have to make time if they want to adhere to the law. On July 1, California cops will be enforcing a new law that requires them to ticket people who use a hand-held cell phone while driving. Call it DWT: Driving While Telephoning.
A lot of people will find the new law inconvenient. But there is a loophole. If you're 18 or over you can still conduct telephone conversations while operating a moving vehicle if you're using a hands-free device. That loophole is controversial.
