Teen Critic Praises New Football Film

“The Blind Side” (opened wide November 20 throughout San Diego and has just bumped "New Moon" off its top spot at the box office) is a true story based on the life of NFL player Michael Oher. This film shows how hard the struggle is in life for an African American.

The movie starts off with Michael (played by Quinton Aaron) living at a friend’s house who gets him into this Christian School. But just because he is “black” they try to do anything they can to not accept him. They end up accepting him because it was the “Christian” thing to do. As the movie progresses Michael leaves his friend’s house and starts to sleep in the gym at the school because it is warm. That’s when Leigh Anne Tuohy (Sandra Bullock), Sean Tuohy (Tim McGraw), and S.J. Tuohy (Jae Head) saw Michael walking in the rain and asked him if he had anywhere to go. They accepted him into their house and treated him like he was one of their own. Toward the end of the film they decide to adopt him. He also got accepted into college with a scholarship to play football. He decides to attend college at Ole Miss (the college his adopted parents went to). He then gets accepted into the NFL where he still plays football to this day for the Baltimore Ravens.

Many people in reality would not take an African American into their home and take care of him as if he were their own kid. I have seen studies that show that 90% would not do a thing like this because of the rumors and stereotypes that people hold. Just because someone is a different race does not mean that they will steal or do anything bad. A Caucasian is just as capable as stealing than an African American or an Asian.

“The Blind Side” is Rated PG-13 for one scene involving brief violence, drugs and sexual references. This film is sad but when you feel like you want to cry it makes you laugh. “Who knew we would have a black son before we knew a democrat?” This line was spoken by Sean Touhy right after Michael’s dreams were almost shattered.

This film should be seen! It is a great movie and it shows people how to get along and to not have anger against different races. It can show people how to do the right thing in life.
