California wants to host the 2020 World Expo. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced the state’s plans to apply while visiting this year’s Expo in Shanghai.

If California submits the winning, Silicon Valley would host the 2020 World Expo. It is an international showcase of technological and industrial developments. Schwarzenegger says California hosting the expo would be good for California’s economy.

“We know that a world expo would also bring 50, 60 million people, visitors. That would be great for California, that will be great for business, it will stimulate the economy, and also it will create jobs.”

Schwarzenegger says Silicon Valley is an ideal place to host the expo because of its abundance of Fortune 1000 companies. The governor says he’ll put together a task force to oversee the state’s application as soon as he gets back to the states later this week.
