Two campuses in San Diego County were named national Blue Ribbon schools today.
The winners were Los Penasquitos Elementary in Rancho Penasquitos and Santa Fe Christian Lower School in Solana Beach. The "Lower School" designation is for grades K-5 at SFC, where students attend through high school.
Blue Ribbon Schools either have students who perform highly in standardized tests, or have 40 percent of their students with disadvantaged backgrounds that show significant academic improvement.
In California, 21 schools received the honor.
They will receive a plaque and a flag at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., this fall.
