New Mayoral Race Poll Shows DeMaio In Lead, Filner Second

The leader in a new poll on the San Diego mayor's race said today he is encouraged that San Diegans continue to support his fiscal reform agenda.

Councilman Carl DeMaio garnered the support of 25 percent of those questioned in a poll released Monday night by 10News. Rep. Bob Filner, D-San Diego, was second with 24 percent.

The polling firm SurveyUSA canvassed 800 adult San Diegans between Monday and Friday last week.

"My true opponents are not the other candidates, but rather the government labor unions and downtown special interests who benefit from the current dysfunction of city government,'' DeMaio told City News Service. "I'm relying on grassroots support from hard working taxpayers to help me clean up City Hall"

District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis got a 14 percent support ranking and Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, R-San Diego, got 13 percent in the poll.

The top two vote-getters in the June 5 primary will face each other in a run-off in November.

The poll is the second to be released since the race started. The first, in September, showed DeMaio and Filner tied with 25 percent support, Dumanis at 16 percent and Fletcher at 10 percent.

The 3 percent gain by Fletcher, unmatched by the other candidates, shows that his message of looking to the future is gaining traction with voters, said Amy Thoma, the communications chief of his campaign.

"Nathan was the only candidate whose support rose compared to the last SurveyUSA poll conducted in September," Thoma said.

"Bob Filner and Bonnie Dumanis both saw their support drop and Carl DeMaio remains stagnant."

Nearly one-quarter of the San Diego electorate was undecided or supportive of other candidates.

That means Dumbanus may now go after Jim Cart-run-of-the-mill to feign objectivity in her SUHSD prosecutions.

If Dumanis is out in June, does she remain our DA?

I wish somebody would answer this I have been wondering about it since she got in the race.

How can Dirty Carl claim his opponents are downtown special interests?

Dirty Carl is all about special interests.

He was a vocal supporter of shoving Manchester's Navy Broadway plan through and make a big stink when Manchester ran into legal problems with his vanity tower project.

I read that Papa Putrid wants to return the favor to his buddy Dirty Carl by supporting him for mayor.

While not an official endorsement, insiders inside the Papaganda Dictatorship say the Führer Papa is "leaning" towards Dirty Carl.

Not only does Papa Pestilence now have a media monopoly in San Diego, with Dirty Carl throned in City Hall, Papa will also have a puppet to do everything he asks.

I can't wait to see the Pravda UT's yellow journalistic endorsements for Dirty Carl, sure to be second only to the Pravda UT's endorsements for Willard Romeny.

And what is wrong with Filner?

San Diego is a majority Democratic city.

How can he be running agains 3 Republicans and only have 25% of the vote?

Are these polls only polling **city** residents, and not the armpit communities of El Cajon, Santee, Escondido, etc., that are notorious right-wing fringe country?

Maybe when DeMaio and Dumanis and fletcher lose they can run for mayor in towns more their speed, like Alpine and Ramona.

I sure hope Dumbanus doesn't remain the DA! Not after everything's she's done. As for Filner, maybe voters think he's simply been around toooooo long.

I'm not sure about Dumanis. If running for mayor means she is giving up her position as DA, I would think we would have a campaign for DA going on this year, but have not heard of anything.

Perhaps someone at KPBS can comment?

If Dumanis is not elected mayor, does she get to remain in her position as DA??
