A woman who most recently headed the FBI's Intelligence Division in Los Angeles today assumed the job of special agent in charge of the bureau's San Diego field office.

Daphne Hearn replaces Keith Slotter, who announced in March he would be retiring after 25 years with the FBI. She is the local office's first female chief.

Since joining the bureau in 1991, Hearn has worked on numerous cases throughout the country, including one against La Cosa Nostra crime syndicate, according to an FBI statement.

Before landing in Los Angeles, she was a special assistant to FBI Director Robert Mueller and later served as interim special agent in charge of the bureau's Honolulu office.
