Nicholas Kralev, Journalist and Author America's Other Army; The US Foreign Service and 21st Century Diplomacy
In San Diego, we are well aware of how much the country depends of the members of the US military. From Camp Pendleton alone, Marines have been called upon to serve repeated tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. And we know that the attacks of 9/11 changed both the scope and the mission of US military intervention.
But, there's another group of US professionals stationed overseas, whose work often goes unnoticed.
Longtime foreign correspondent and journalist Nicholas Kralev profiles the work of these professionals in his new book - "America's other Army; The US Foreign Service and 21st Century Diplomacy."
Kralev is a former Financial Times and Washington Times correspondent, he has traveled around the world with four U.S. secretaries of state - Hillary Clinton, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright.
He's speaking Tuesday night at the Town and Country Resort in Mission Valley.
