From the San Diego Symphony:
Join Rafael Payare for an unmissable season finale at The Rady Shell as he leads probably the most iconic and powerful work in all of classical music: Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. From the dramatic tension of its opening pages to its glorious choral finale setting Schiller's defiant political poem "Ode to Joy," this is a symphony that draws us all together to celebrate and embrace our common humanity. The concert opens with superstar cellist Alisa Weilerstein in Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto, the English composer's impassioned lament for the catastrophe of the First World War.
Note: on May 27 gates open at 5:30 p.m.; on May 28 gates open at 3:30 p.m.
