California's Attorney General filed suit against Sempra Energy Trading charging the company with electricity market manipulation. KPBS Reporter Erik Anderson has details.
California's top legal official say the Sempra Energy affiliate was one of the worst actors during the state's energy crisis. Attorney General Bill Lockyer says the company owes the state a lot of money.
Lockyer: "Its potentially hundreds of millions of dollars. As well as maybe some restructuring over the way they do business to minimize the monopoly practices that they've engaged in."
Settlement talks recently stalled, prompting the legal action. Parent company Sempra Energy, meanwhile, is in court fighting a class action lawsuit alleging the company manipulated natural gas supplies during the energy crisis. A Texas company settled similar charges for $1.6 billion.
